We hope that all of you and your families are healthy and safe as we continue to navigate through these difficult times. Soccer is just one of the activities that we look forward to starting this time of year. We miss the excitement of getting back on the fields this week to kick-off our spring club season.
Today we received an update from our leagues and governing organizations communicating the latest timeline for the hopeful start to the spring season. Due to the recent update of federal government social distancing guidelines, all Illinois Youth soccer activities are suspended until at least April 30, 2020.
This means that we are unable to practice or play any games until after April 30th, which includes the tournament our club was planning to participate in this coming month. Currently, the leagues are still hopeful of holding the spring season, even if this means extending the season further into the summer. However, we all know that we are in a very fluid environment and are asked to adapt as necessary. We’ll continue to follow the advice and guidance of public health officials and will only plan to begin the spring season when appropriately advised to do so with the safety of our players as the priority.
Stay tuned this week as we will put out some drills and activities that our players can do sharpen their skills and have some fun. Look for these activities through social media.
To our NIFC Families:
For sure, these are interesting times as we all navigate through this challenging time in the wake of COVID-19. As communicated on March 12, 2020, NIFC is cancelling our remaining winter programming and all other club activity through Sunday March 29, 2020. We will continue to monitor the information made available from the Illinois Department of Health and the DeKalb County Health Department, along with the Illinois Youth Soccer Association, and will provide updates when possible as to when our club will begin outdoor spring programming. The safety of our players, coaches, and families will be the priority.
We urge all of our club families to follow the guidelines and best practices as recommended by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention: www.cdc.gov
